Met de hoofdstad in Krakau (zowel een historische als moderne stad van cultuur en goed entertainment), biedt Małopolska, die de meest aantrekkelijke regio in Polen is op het gebied van toerisme, maar liefst 13 objecten uit de UNESCO Werelderfgoedlijst aan.
De natuur met bergketens, meren, rivieren en bossen moedigt aan om actief toerisme uit te oefenen, zowel in de zomer als in de winter. In Krakau leiden de aangewezen fietspaden door de straten van het tijdens de Renaissance gebouwde centrum, langs de boulevards aan de Vistula en door de recreatiegebieden. In de bergen zijn de aangewezen routes bedoeld voor mountainbiken, paardrijden en cross-country skiën, daarnaast bestaan er nog 60 skicentra met pistes van verschillende moeilijkheidsgraad. De actieve recreatie gaat gepaard met ontspanning in één van de negen kuuroorden of in thermale zwembaden. Er zijn ook wellness hotels en pensions aanwezig.
Reizend rond Małopolska, op zoek naar goede recreatie komt u zeker bij de Houten Architectuur Route terecht, die 1.500 km lang is en meer dan 250 historische houten objecten verbindt met "de in hout betoverde schoonheid" als kenmerk. De rijke en nog steeds levendige folklore, de het gehele jaar lang te bezichtigen traditionele rituelen tijdens evenementen en heerlijke regionale gerechten zijn andere redenen om Małopolska als doel te maken voor het doorbrengen van tijd op een interessante manier.
